The Sixth Wheel

So, this weekend I headed for the great outdoors with Kim, Lance, and Rich. I was so excited cause I hadn't gone out of town in who-knows-when! To Kim's family's cabin we drove on Friday evening...around 9:30...give or take a minute. It started out good. I whipped out my portable dvd player and popped in Ratatouille. (Cause I hadn't seen it yet and neither had Rich-who was accompanying me in the back seat). The 3 hour drive went by much faster since I wasn't driving and wasn't paying any attention to the road. The Disney cartoon didn't end up being one of my favorites- can you believe it? My family kept raving about it but I don't know what they were raving about...it wasn't that great. In fact, I think it was weird. Anywho, the movie was over and we got to the cabin safely.

We hopped out of the car and instantly I froze...bad idea to come in thin pajama pants. It was seriously 25 degrees outside! Ya, BBBRRR!!!!

Wasn't much to do Friday night since it was so late so we just settled in, warmed up by the fire and went to bed. Being the city girl that I am, I didn't bring warm enough clothes-I don't know that I even OWN clothes that would be warm enough! haha. So, to bed, I wore, 3 pairs of socks, thermals, pants, gloves, and 2 jackets. Yep-still wasn't warm enough. In bed, me and kim shared 4 blankets and a thick sleeping bag on top. Yep-STILL wasn't warm enough. After this experience...I don't think I could ever live anywhere where it's constantly cold.

So, Saturday morning we all went out for a walk and played down at the little pond near the cabin. It was partly frozen over so we were throwing rocks in it. That lasted about half an hour. Then we went out driving in the prawlers (A.K.A. souped up golf carts that go really fast!) Had a good time except for the fact that in 40 degree whether the wind hitting your face and hands (even with gloves on) was shockingly freezing. Me and Rich made our way back to the cabin but lost Kim and Lance somewhere in the forest. Oh well. They knew their way back hopefully. About a half hour later and hanging around the fire, Kim and Lance came quietly strolling inside. They didn't come sit over by the fire though so I thought, "hm...they must not be that cold." Then I saw them whispering to Kim's mom in the kitchen....

Turns out, Lance was driving the prawler and had took a turn too fast and rolled it. (Ya, uh-oh and oops!) They were ok they, just worried if the prawler was broken or damaged badly. After a quick look, Kim's dad discovered it just had plastic scraped off the side but all was ok. Lance had a gash on his hand and Kim had an awesome lap belt bruise on her thigh...which we joked about later when the family was gone.

But, later that night Lance's cousin and fiance came up...apparently just to spend the night because we were going to be leaving Sunday cause that's when the rest of the family was leaving. That's when the awkward REALLY set in. Bleh!!! I hate awkward! The 2 couples were being all cuddly/cutesy/lovey-dovey. Meanwhile, me and Rich were giving each other disgusted stares. I think it wouldn't have been such an issue if we weren't fifth and sixth wheels!!! I didn't mind it at first but then it was just too much...really just reminding me what I don't have. (Sarcastically I thought..."Thanks! I enjoy being teased. You're right-look at the poor shmuck who has to sit there and watch you hold hands and kiss!") I couldn't stand it any longer so I went to bed.

I contemplated being upset with Kim over it. But really, it wasn't her fault. I'm sure she didn't mean for it to seem like she was excluding me or annoying me. It was just annoying cause she REALLY wanted me to come and have a good time but there was no way I could have a good time being the odd man out. And, for sure Rich felt like that too...in fact, I KNOW he felt like that cause we talked about it when no one else was around...too bad we weren't attracted to each other cause you KNOW I would have hit it up with him!

So, long story over. I'm back home. Still single. Still have LOTS of homework to do. Don't know how I'm going to get it all done in time for class and still have it be legible and completely intelligible. Thanks for reading about my trials and tribulations and albeit SMALL spurts of joy! Have a wonderful day! :)
